Penis, Foreskin & Scrotum Disorders

Balanitis

Balanitis refers to pain, swelling, and irritation of the head of the penis. This is most often associated with new onset of diabetes in uncircumcised men. However, bacterial infections, viral infections, and some skin conditions can also cause balanitis. Your urologist may perform a physical exam, or order urine and blood tests to confirm the diagnosis.. The treatment might include creams, antibiotics, improved hygiene, and circumcision.

Hydrocele

Hydrocele refers to a swelling of the scrotum caused by fluid collecting in the scrotum. It is rarely accompanied by discomfort or pain. Your urologist will diagnose the condition during the physical exam or with additional imaging tests, such as a scrotal ultrasound. Most cases of hydrocele are stable, but may require surgery if the scrotum becomes too large.

Hematuria

Hematuria refers to the presence of blood cells in urine. Numerous conditions can cause hematuria, including urinary tract infections, kidney stones, kidney inflammation, bladder inflammation, enlarged prostate, urinary tract injury, endometriosis, menstruation, sickle-cell disease, bladder cancer, or kidney cancer.

Interventions We Offer

Vasectomy

A vasectomy is a surgical procedure that stops sperm from leaving your body. It is a safe and effective permanent birth control method, but it does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases. Our urologists will have a thorough discussion with you about this intervention to make sure you understand it. Although a procedure to reverse a vasectomy exists, you should not proceed with vasectomy if you think you may want more children in the future.

Cystoscopy

A cystoscopy is a procedure used to view the inside of the bladder and tube that the urine flows through, known as the urethra. The procedure is performed by a urologist who uses a unique pencil-sized lighted tube with a camera or viewing lens called a cystoscope. The process helps specialists diagnose and treat urinary tract problems such as bladder or urethral cancer, bladder stones, enlarged prostate, urethral strictures, and urinary fistulas.
