Classes

  • Childbirth Education Class

    The class will cover the anatomy and physiology of pregnancy and labor, emotions of pregnancy, nutrition, fetal growth and development, comfort measures for labor, working with unexpected events in labor, cesarean delivery as well as the practice of relaxation and breathing techniques for labor.

    Classes are only open to UConn Health patients. There is no cost to take these classes. Classes are held online via Zoom at 6 p.m.

  • Prenatal Breastfeeding Class

    A free class offered on breastfeeding for expectant parents led by a certified lactation consultant. Discussion topics include the benefits of breastfeeding, how to get started, and how the rest of the family can help the breastfeeding mother as well as how to continue breastfeeding and working.

    Classes are only open to UConn Health patients. There is no cost to take these classes. Classes are held online via Zoom from 6 to 8 p.m.

Support Groups

  • Dementia Caregiver Support Group

    UConn Health hosts a monthly support group for caregivers supporting persons living with dementia. The group is free and open to the public. Two social workers with many years of dementia care experience lead the group. Please join us!

    When: First Tuesday of each month; 10:30 a.m. to Noon

    Where: 195 Farmington Avenue, Farmington, CT 06030

  • Heart Disease Support Group

    UConn Health’s Calhoun Cardiology Center invites patients diagnosed with heart disease, their families, and caregivers to a monthly support group meeting to discuss issues surrounding living with heart disease.

    • Coping Methods
    • Heart-Healthy Diet
    • Managing Other Chronic Conditions
    • Additional Resources

    When: Third Wednesday of each month; Noon to 1 p.m.

    Where: UConn Health Main Building, 300 UConn Health Boulevard, 2nd Floor, Cardiology Conference Room (just past Cardiology Clinic), Farmington, CT 06030

  • Multiple Sclerosis Support Group

    Please join us for our monthly MS Support Group. This group is open to anyone with a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. You may attend in person or virtually. Light snacks will be provided and parking will be validated.

    When: Last Tuesday of each month; 11 a.m. to Noon

    Where: UConn Health Outpatient Pavilion, 135 Dowling Way, 3rd Floor East Conference Room S3301, Farmington, CT

  • Myasthenia Gravis Support Group

    This support group is open to anyone with a diagnosis of Myasthenia gravis.

    You may attend in person or online. Light snacks and refreshments provided. Free parking.

    When: Second Thursday of each month; 11 a.m. to Noon

    Where: The Brain and Spine Institute, 5 Munson Road, 2nd Floor Conference Room MN2033, Farmington, CT

  • Parkinson’s Disease Support Group

    The UConn Health Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Center hosts a monthly support group facilitated by Kristen Vavrek, LCSW. The group meets to exchange ideas, share experiences, and connect with one another about life with Parkinson’s disease. Attendees include people with Parkinson’s disease, family members, caregivers, and friends. The group is open to anyone affected by Parkinson’s disease, not only patients of UConn Health.

    When: Second Thursday of each month; 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

    Where: The Brain and Spine Institute, 5 Munson Road, Farmington, CT

    This support group also meets virtually.

    UConn Health’s Stroke Center invites stroke survivors, families, and caregivers to a monthly group meeting to discuss issues surrounding life after having a stroke.
