Kidney & Urinary Research & Clinical Trials

Our Nephrology and Urology teams are an integral part of the groundbreaking research that happens each day at UConn Health. We work diligently to develop new therapies and treatments for kidney and urology conditions, and your participation is an important contribution to the future of medicine.

  • Molecular Mechanisms of Kidney Injury & Fibrosis

Our researchers investigate how kidneys become damaged and form scar tissue on a molecular level. We are devoted to understanding the details of how kidney diseases happen and discovering new ways to prevent and treat them.

  • Molecular Mechanisms of Acute Kidney Injury

Our investigators are exploring how kidney microenvironment facilitates cell-matrix interactions that impacts the process of acute kidney injury and repair at the molecular level. Understanding this process will be greatly beneficial for constructing an early warning system and designing novel therapeutic strategies to prevent or treat acute kidney injury.

  • Outcomes of Dialysis & Therapeutic Apheresis

We analyze the outcomes of therapeutic interventions, such as dialysis and apheresis. We evaluate our own therapeutic success to find ways of treating you and your family.

  • Unusual or Rare Kidney Disease

Even if you have an uncommon condition, our researchers are dedicated to studying how your kidney disease affects you. We care about every one of our patients, no matter how rare their disease and what needs they may have in the short and long term.

  • Chronic Periodontal Disease in Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease

Our researchers analyze the links between chronic kidney disease and the infections of the tissue surrounding your teeth, also known as gum or periodontal disease.

  • Prostate Cancer & Outcomes

Our research teams are currently studying prostate cancer; a disease that affects only those assigned male at birth. We are also looking at the outcomes of this disease to better understand how to fight it.

  • Bladder Disorders & Dysfunction Associated With Aging

Our research experts are investigating various disorders of the bladder and functional problems found in our elderly community. We’re looking to understand the nature of these disorders and find new ways to treat them.
