Our Mission & Philosophy
The UConn Health Art Collection is a core element of our therapeutic environment, providing solace and inspiration for a caring community of patients, staff, and students. Art cultivates an atmosphere that is conducive to healing, inspiration, and upliftment.
Our Story
The UConn Health Auxiliary envisioned an Art for Patients program, which established a collection of donated works from local and regional artists under the leadership of Celeste LeWitt. In 1979, an Art Advisory Committee was formed to manage and grow our art collection. The Art Advisory Committee includes UConn Health staff and community volunteers. The committee has grown the UConn Health Art Collection to over 2500 works of art, spanning multiple genres and media. Our Art Curator and the Assistant Director of Campus Planning & Space Management co-chair the UConn Health Art Committee.
We are grateful to have received many donations and actively seek opportunities to display these generously gifted works of art throughout all our sites. Through the leadership of our Art Curator, the Art Committee also coordinates and hosts exhibits in the Celeste LeWitt Gallery in The Food Court.
Our Policy
We select, acquire, and exhibit art with guidance from the Art Advisory Committee. The committee will review potential donations to the UConn Health Art Collection and recommend accepting artwork based on its alignment with our mission, philosophy, and applicable state statutes. The Office of Logistics Management (OLM) will document selected artwork and record it in our inventory, which is frequently monitored and reviewed annually. The Art Curator will provide coinciding documents to the UConn Foundation, which will send a thank you letter to the donor acknowledging their generous gift to UConn Health.

Attention Artist Community!
We are currently scheduling for 2025 and beyond!
As a public institution, exhibits in the Celeste LeWitt Gallery must not include imagery containing religious, political, violent, or nude content. Only two-dimensional art can be exhibited, and all works must be ready to hang, including appropriate hardware for installation.
At the end of the show, artists often donate a work of art to our collection. Although encouraged, art donations are not a requirement for exhibiting.
