    Our dedicated team of experts, including geriatricians, geriatric psychiatrists, neurologists, neuropsychologists, neuroradiologists, and social workers, will comprehensively evaluate your memory and cognitive function. This holistic approach ensures that every aspect of your condition is addressed.

    We utilize state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and technologies to provide you with accurate and detailed assessments. These assessments are crucial for developing a personalized care plan.

    Following your assessment, we’ll work with you to develop a tailored care plan that may include medical interventions, cognitive rehabilitation, and lifestyle changes.     This is a new era in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. Our specialists at the James E. C. Walker Memory Assessment Program are skilled in evaluating Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia and are experts in the latest treatments. With access to advanced diagnostic tools, you can be reassured that you or your loved one has a thorough work-up leading to a clear diagnosis, and our multidisciplinary team will develop a treatment plan with your individual needs in mind.

During Your Visit

When you come to the UConn Health Memory Assessment Program, you’re not just receiving a singular service—you're choosing to be part of a dynamic academic medical center that’s at the forefront of memory, aging, and neurological care, education and research. You can expect a personalized and thorough evaluation tailored to your unique needs.

At your first visit, you will see a geriatric specialist who will provide a medical work-up, including:

  • Comprehensive medical history and exam
  • Memory screening
  • Medication review
  • Bloodwork
  • Brain imaging

We may also refer you to other specialists in our group. Many of our patients receive:

  • Neuropsychological testing by one of our board-certified neuropsychologists
  • Advanced brain imaging, such as Brain PET scans
  • Biomarker testing, such as cerebrospinal fluid analysis
  • Genetic testing
  • Assessment and coordinated care with a geriatric psychiatrist or neurologist
  • Referrals to speech-language pathology for memory training
  • Caregiver support through our social worker and support group

Guiding an Improved Dementia Experience (GUIDE)

UConn Health is proud to be participating in Medicare’s new GUIDE Model, an innovative program of comprehensive dementia care that focuses on improving the quality of life for people with dementia by reducing caregiver burden and allowing people living with dementia to remain in their homes and communities for longer. Patients and caregivers in the GUIDE program receive dementia care coordination, caregiver education and support, and may be eligible for respite services. The program is available free of charge for patients with traditional Medicare Parts A and B insurance. If you have any questions, email GUIDEprogram@uchc.edu.
