Aetna and UConn Health Reach Agreement

Strategic Plan

Improve Payor Rates

Improve UConn Health’s average commercial reimbursement rates from last in the state to the midpoint. Estimated to be worth more than $50M annually based on current clinical activity. The strategy requires ramp-up over time, as UConn Health’s contracts with commercial payors come up for renewal over the next few years.

Progress

  • ConnectiCare and UnitedHealthcare Agreements

In 2025 and 2026 respectively, UConn Health reached new multi-year agreements with ConnectiCare and UnitedHealthcare, allowing members to continue seeing their trusted UConn Health providers and seeking care at UConn John Dempsey Hospital as they normally would. As Connecticut’s only public academic medical center, UConn Health plays a critical role in caring for patients across the state, training the next generation of healthcare professionals, advancing research, and serving as a safety net for our communities. The agreements reached with ConnectiCare and UnitedHealthcare recognize the value of that mission and the importance of sustaining it on behalf of Connecticut taxpayers.
