Organize and leverage enterprise-wide (and university-wide) expertise and experience to identify and implement projects or tools that improve the quality of care and/or the efficiency of business processes.

Progress

  • Steering Group Chartered, Work Outlined

    The initiative steering committee met for a second time on February 23 2026. Major items discussed included philanthropic opportunities by Dr. Agwunobi, and inventory of AI current uses portfolio, and what’s in the pipeline with Epic by Chief Information Officer Rick McCarthy as well as a discussion led by Dr. Tom Agresta on the future of AI in healthcare condensed from other talks he has presented to help the group, foundationally, how AI ‘learns’ and works.

    Next Steps

    The committee agreed upon the following actions before the next meeting:

    • Develop a Draft Process for AI Risk Assessment and Review: Identify leads
    • Develop Draft AI Policy Addressing Ethical Use, Transparency, and Compliance: Identify leads
    • Identify Workgroup Members:
      • Operations AI Workgroup: Clinical and Institutional support functions
      • Education and Research Workgroup: To collaborate closely with Storrs AI initiative
